After successfully completing two M.A.’s cum laude at Utrecht University (one in History and one in Philosophy), I am currently pursuing a PhD degree at the University of Genoa with a scholarship from the Northwestern Italian Philosophy Consortium (curriculum: Ethics & Politics). In my research, I focus mainly on the epistemic responsibilities of democratic citizens and inquire to what extent these responsibilities carry a moral component. More specifically, I aim to develop a ‘virtue epistemology’ based conception of citizen duties in response to the epistemic deficits in democracy amidst the increasing challenges posed by post-truth politics (typified by phenomena like ‘fake news’ and a declining trust in traditional truth-authorities such as the mainstream media and the scientific community). My research interests include voting ethics, democratic legitimacy, epistemic democracy, moral responsibility, social epistemology and social justice.
