Legislatures in Uncertain Times

This Section seeks to explore the role of legislatures in representing citizens and shaping public policy against a backdrop of a rise in the strength of populist political parties and a general increase in disenchantment with established political processes among the voting public. The Section includes Panels exploring the effects of the internal organisation of legislatures, the behaviour of individuals and parties in the law-making process, legislative politics in the European Parliament, and the representative role played by MPs and legislatures. Other Panels will explore executive-legislative relations, non-legislative activities, such as speeches and questions, interest representation and lobbying, and finally the character and impact of social networks in legislatures with Papers from all methodological approaches.
