Abstract

Papers in this panel contribute to theorizing the future of representative democracy. They engage with contemporary challenges, such as the rise of conspiracy theories, the decline of left-wing political parties, and the myopia of representative democracies to discuss future options and scenarios for advanced democracies. Papers also draw on the politics of polarization to reconsider the lost art of democratic listening and how it may be performed.
