Abstract

Democratic governance rests on the idea that citizens and their interests are represented in the political process. If large segments of the population feel like they are not represented, satisfaction with and support for democracy may dwindle. Within a democratic framework, representation of diverse interests can be achieved in many ways, and feelings of (a lack of) representation can be based on various elements such as issue congruence or group membership. This panel tackles the interrelationship between different forms of political representation and political support.
