Abstract

This panel provides an analytical framework for the analysis of the far-right in Latin America from a comparative perspective. Through case studies on the figures of Jair Bolsonaro in Brazil, Rafael López Aliaga in Peru, José Antonio Kast in Chile, and Guido Manini Ríos in Uruguay, the panel offers a broad and detailed view of the distinctive characteristics of the far-right in the region. The analysis compares and contrasts the core and auxiliary ideologies that drive each actor, providing a deeper understanding of the variants of the far-right in Latin America. Additionally, this panel examines how these ideologies interact with and politicize existing inequalities in each context. The intention is not only to contribute to a better understanding of the far-right phenomenon in Latin America but also to illuminate the strategies and rhetoric employed by these actors and how they relate to the contexts of inequality in which they operate.
