Unpacking the migration-higher education nexus: Actors, policies, and power

Abstract

The nexus between migration and higher education policies have long attracted scholars interested in identifying the effects of higher education internationalisation and the global competition for talent. For migration scholars, the ubiquitous introduction of post-study pathways for international students marked the acceptance of countries struggling with population ageing and labour market shortages. For higher education scholars, new or revised national policies and institutional practices for facilitating scholarly mobility signal growing efforts for higher education internationalisation around the world. This panel invites scholars researching the migration-higher education nexus to examine the evolution and effects of changing policies and practices.
