Abstract

Virtually all political parties need to handle internal conflict at some point. At the same time, it is also a well-known mantra in the literature on political parties that intra-party conflict needs to be avoided and the party needs to appear united to appeal to voters. This panel connects both perspectives, seeking to study the consequences of intra-party conflict for party competition from a variety of angles.
