Presidential Paths to the Leadership and Party-Legislature Relationships

Abstract

Politicians who aspire to become President have to overcome different thresholds and obstacles. Depending on the political system and the institutional framework, the candidates running for the presidency face formal and informal challenges. Before acceding to the electoral competition and electoral campaigns, those politicians involved in the presidential race need to overcome different steps. Moreover, once they are elected they will be facing negotiations with political parties and the legislature. The outcome of the presidential activity will then vary on the basis of these different tasks and contexts. Last but not least the role of the individual characteristics has to have considered.
