Travelling to the University from the city centre

The Blindern Campus lies just outside the city centre, and is easily accessible by public transport; about 10 minutes by metro and 15–20 minutes by tram.

  • By Tram Take tram 17 or tram 18 in the direction of Rikshospitalet. Tram stop Universitetet Blindern is very close to the Faculty of Social Sciences (Eilert Sundts hus), where registration, the exhibition and Roundtables will take place.
  • By Metro Take lines 4 or 5 in the direction of Vestli, Sognsvann and Ringen. Metro stop Forskningsparken is a five-minute walk from Eilert Sundts hus where registration takes place. Alternatively, alight at Universitetet Blindern, an eight-minute walk from Eilert Sundts hus.

Tramlines 17 and 18 are currently replaced by buses between Jernbanetorget and Holbergs plass. See Tram map. We advise using the Metro to get from the city centre to the University.

Travelling to the Plenary Lecture and Opening Reception

The Plenary Lecture takes place at the University Aula (Domus Media, Karl Johansgate 47) in Oslo city centre. The Aula is spectacularly decorated with paintings by the celebrated Norwegian artist Edvard Munch. From Blindern Campus, it's a six-minute journey on Metro lines 4 or 5 from Forskningsparken to Nationaltheatret, from which it's a 2-3 minute walk.

The opening reception following the Plenary Lecture will take place at the Opera House (Kirsten Flagstads Plass 1), next to Oslo Central Station (Jernbanetorget). From the Aula to the Opera House it’s a pleasant 15 – 20 minute walk down the main street Karl Johan. See map of Oslo city centre. Alternatively, travel two stops (three minutes) on the Metro from Nationaltheatret to Jernbaneorget, from which the Opera House is an eight-minute walk.

Cash Machines / ATM

Cards are accepted for all transactions throughout the campus. Make cash withdrawals at grocery stores 'Bunnpris' at Frederikke, or 'Kiwi' on John Colletts plass.
