Pre-conference Workshop

Demystifying the academic writing process. Or: how to start, finish, and publish your (academic) texts
Delivered by Mirya Holman, Tulane University

Join this free writing workshop to explore best practices in writing towards publishing academic work, which is central to securing jobs and promotions, and to disseminating your ideas to the world.

Take a deep dive into the process of writing, editing, and revising your work before submitting to publication.

Learn to address the difficulties of the publication process and other challenges that women-identify and non-binary researchers as well as gender and politics researchers face.

Leave equipped with tools, habits, and techniques to help you write more, edit more quickly, and publish impactful research in academic outlets.

The workshop will also feature subunits on goal setting, developing a writing habit, and managing your research pipeline.

Download and submit your completed application form to sgconferences@ecpr.eu by Thursday 31 March.

In the case where the number of applications is greater than the seats available, priority will be given to early career scholars from minorities and disadvantaged groups, including those belonging to non-Western universities and to other groups often marginalised within the discipline.

Publishers' Roundtable

Early Career Scholars Meet Journal Editors

For early career scholars, developing a publication strategy is key to advancing their careers – from thinking about what you want to achieve by publishing your research, to focusing on the key criteria for each publication, to finding appropriate outlets to publish in.

In this roundtable, editors from a range of prominent journals will provide valuable tips and tricks and share their insights on getting published.

Speed Mentoring Session

Receive advice on career and professional development, such as working towards tenure or switching between temporary contracts; administrative responsibilities and service; but also how to navigate institutional obstacles like sexism, racism, homophobia, or juggling life and work, and more.

Mentees (junior scholars) – PhD researchers, postdocs, or newly hired assistant professors working towards tenure.

Mentors (senior scholars) will be expected to read mentees’ short descriptions of their career development goals and offer feedback during the mentoring session.

Submit your application via this form by Friday 25 March.

The Academic Convenors will pair mentors and mentees and the Speed Mentoring Session will take place after the last panel session of the second day of the conference on Thursday 7 July.
