Playing for peace and justice: introducing serious games for TJ

Speaker – Igor Lyubashenko, SWPS University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Steering Committee Member of our Standing Group on Human Rights and Transitional Justice

Read Abstract

Our Standing Group on Human Rights and Transitional Justice is delighted to present a brand-new online seminar series to support its mission of finding new methodological approaches that can enrich research in its field of interest. One such approach is associated with ‘serious games’, which have been recognised as a sound research method in social sciences.

What to expect

In forthcoming months, the series seeks to elaborate on serious game which can be used for didactical and explanatory purposes, to:

  • expose players to some practical dilemmas associated with the implementation of transitional justice
  • explain potential consequences of possible policy choices

The first seminar aims to create a simple scenario, with the gameplay lasting around one hour, encouraging players further studying (e.g. students) or seeking professional advice in order to design relevant evidence-based policies (e.g. decision-makers).

About the Standing Group

The Standing Group on Human Rights and Transitional Justice links aspects of human rights, transitional justice, democratisation, political transition, politics of transformation and politics which are relevant for research. The group brings together a broad range of topics in the field of political science research and its sub-disciplines, such as development studies, regional studies, political theory, conflict studies and more. Find out more.
