Editorial Vacancy – EPSR

Co-Editorship of the European Political Science Review (EPSR)

The closing date for applications is 31 May 2021

About the journal

The European Political Science Review (EPSR) focuses on the most important debates in the discipline, appealing to a broad readership across sub-disciplines and methodologies.

The Journal publishes high quality scholarly research in political science, focusing on the most important debates in the discipline and demonstrating the highest possible standards in conceptualisation, theorisation and methodology.

It publishes empirical papers based on qualitative or quantitative methodologies whose research is placed within the context of larger (theoretical) debates in the discipline. The journal also welcomes conceptual and theoretical papers as well as contributions from the field of normative political theory. EPSR adheres to a plural view of the discipline.

EPSR is not concerned solely with European political issues, nor is it conceived as exclusively for European scholars, publishing submissions dealing with global issues and non-European topics.

The current editorial team comprises:

  • EditorCarlos Closa Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and European University Institute
  • EditorMatt Qvortrup Coventry University
  • Associate Editor – Catherine Moury NOVA University Lisbon

Carlos Closa will complete his term on the 30 September 2021, so we are seeking a new Co-Editor to officially join the journal from 1 October 2021.

About the role

The Co-Editors work together to receive submissions, initially assessed by the Associate Editor, and decide whether to retain a manuscript for review if it meets the EPSR standards and the priorities of the journal’s editorial policy.

Co-Editors provide relevant suggestions for reviewers and are ultimately responsible for overseeing the final revisions of manuscripts and determining the order of publication.

The Co-Editors also work together to:

  • Evaluate the academic quality of such articles and those unsolicited articles which have also been submitted to the journal. This includes working with the journal Editorial Assistant to select appropriate referees to provide evaluation reports.
  • Use their contacts in the wider political science community to discover potentially suitable articles for the journal. The Co-Editors are expected to be pro-active in this regard.
  • Determine the composition of the editorial board
  • Produce the annual report delivered by the editors at the end of the calendar year
  • Represent the journal at major conferences like the ECPR Joint Sessions of Workshops and General Conference
  • Take part in the professional debate about trends and standards in political science journals
  • Contribute to changes and innovations designed to increase the reach and impact of the journal
